How They Did It - Executing the winning strategy in Iraq

Sun, 11 Nov 2007 at 02:34 PM

"As we assess the security gains made over the past four months, I attribute the progress to three prominent dynamics," General Odierno explained. "First, the surge allowed us to eliminate extremist safe havens and sanctuaries, [and] just as importantly to maintain our gains. Second, the ongoing quantitative and qualitative improvement of the Iraqi security forces are translating to ever-increasing tactical successes. Lastly, there's a clear rejection of al Qaeda and other extremists by large segments of the population, this coupled with the bottom-up awakening movement by both Sunni and Shia who want a chance to reconcile with the government of Iraq." -- General Odierno

It's good to know that this information is coming from an objective source that is not directly tied to the Pentagon. I was not suprised to hear that things are going so well in Iraq! It's almost like the 150,000+ people never died! This is great news! Just think, in a few decades, Iraq's economy will return the the level it was in in 2002. Aces, Tinnitus! You definately deserve User of the Month. I mean it's not like you ever repeat propoganda or government talking points or anything www.ablenet.org/datas/icons/thumbsup.gif

Your response to very specific chronological data is an ad hominem slander of the Pentagon and myself. Let me know when you've educated yourself adequately to respond to the data.

Here's a primer on why your methodology for "debate" is fallacious:

http://www.fallacyfiles.org/poiswell.html

As to the little data you did provide, you are ascribing Iraqi non-combatant casualties to Coalition Forces when in fact the majority have been caused by al-Qaeda, militias and former regime elements. You are conflating total casualties with tragic yet unavoidable Coalition collateral damage causing loss of innocent life.

As to the Iraqi economy, no news there. War, terrorism and insurgencies disrupt economic activity. The real questions are:

- Who benefited from the previous regime's economic output?
- Who is benefiting now?
- What are the Iraqi GDP trends and outlook?
